Day one
The safari starts at Johannesburg International Airport from where We transfer via a scenic route to the Kruger National Park. We then spend the first hours on a game drive enjoying the reserve's abundant wildlife before checking in. A guided sunset/night drive in open vehicles allows for the opportunity to discover the many nocturnal species that inhabit the park. Dinner is a social affair and you fall asleep with the sounds of Africa in your ears.
Day two
Up at the crack of dawn to make the most of our time, the day is spent between game drives, hides, and relaxing at the camp. Optional activities like guided game walks are available.
Day three
After a last early morning game drive, we cross the border into Mozambique (have patience). Maputo is a typical African city - bustling with people, travellers and traders and if time allows we wander around the old city and visit the sights. We go tourist class on the ferry - slightly up from sharing the decks with locals and their chickens, goats, building materials, trade stuff and whatever else can be carried aboard. We check in at the Pestana Inhaca and check out the island or relax at the pool.
Day for and five
Inhaca is a typical African Island - everything relaxed and laid back. We complete four dives on any of the rarely dived reefs around the island, chosen on the day depending on tide and conditions. The afternoons are free to explore, relax or go deep-sea fishing.
Day six
We take the first ferry back to Maputo and load the vehicles onto the ferry that crosses the bay to Catembe. You will nothing less than Livingstone himself on this one:-). It becomes time to put your 4x4 lessons into practice when we tackle the "highway" to the south - it takes anything from 3 to 8 hours to cover the 160 odd kilometres that varies from dirt to potholed to sandy tracks!
Days seven to nine
The coastline of Southern Mozambique is covered with the most beautiful and exquisite structures of hard and soft corals, home to myriads of game and reef fish, potato basses, rays, turtles, dolphins, whales, hammerheads and Zambezi sharks. Parque de Malongane offers you to dive 24 reefs, ranging from idyllic 8m to extreme deep blue 40m dives. The closest reef is only 300m offshore, with the furthest being about 7km boat ride. The reefs offer something for everyone, from Open Water to Advanced divers, from professional wide to micro photographers to just casual photo enthusiasts, for those who study corals and fish to those divers who only wish to appreciate fantastic world-class diving. The afternoons are free to explore the nearby villages or relax on the beach.
Day ten
Time to start the 4x4 and lock the diffs! The last few kilometres to the South African border is sandy (or muddy) fun! We cross the border at Kosi Bay and from there we travel through KwaZulu Natal to check in at our base for the next three nights - Elingham Resort at Rocky Bay.
Days eleven and twelve
These two days are not for the faint of heart. We chum the water (sardine oil). We wait. Tiger sharks arrive. 30+ Black tip sharks arrive. When the water boils with sharks we sharks we jump in and drift dive with them. If it gets to hectic we climb out and wait again. After lunch we visit the local crocodile farm and check out their stock - 3,000 of the beasts and one afternoon you have free.
Day thirteen
Our journey takes us from the coastal plains of South Africa to the Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho. The Sani Pass is renowned under local off-roaders, almost as renowned as the highest pub in Africa where we overnight in comfortably fitted Sotho huts.
