Day one, Sunday
The safari starts at Johannesburg International Airport when participants are picked up and transferred to a central hotel. Depending on your time of arrival, an optional tour of Johannesburg/Soweto can be undertaken. The evening is spent getting to know each other and we advise going to bed early:-)
Day two, Monday
The adventure begins with short transfer to Lanseria airport from where we fly to Inhambane, Mozambique. It is a typical little African airport and formalities can be tedious. Relax and enjoy... Barra Dive Resort is located on Mozambique’s Manta Coast. The dive centre is nestled among palm trees on the shores of the warm Indian Ocean. Apart from the friendly Mozambique people and breathtaking scenery, the region is fast becoming world famous for its spectacular diving. The half hour transfer introduces you to rural Africa - vibrant and colourful!
Days three to six, Tuesday to Friday
The diving in Mozambique compares with some of the best in the world and is still a relatively well-kept secret. From the awesome sightings of Manta Rays, Whale sharks and Humpback Whales to the sought after Harlequin Shrimp, Frogfish and Sea Horses – there is something to please everyone. We complete two dives with a brunch in between and you have the afternoon free to relax on the pristine beach or to take part in any of the optional activities like cultiral tours, quad biking, horse riding and kayaking.
Day seven, Saturday
After breakfast we travel through many colourful and vibrant villages and stop for a picnic lunch overlooking the lakes before overnighting at Casa Lisa, a little haven in the middle of the bush near Maputo.
Day eight, Sunday
Maputo is a typical African city - bustling with people, travellers and traders, even on a Sunday:-). Things take their own time, so it is best for us to arrive early and secure our place on the ferry. If time allows we wander around the old city and visit the sights. We go tourist class - slightly up from sharing the decks with locals and their chickens, goats, building materials, trade stuff and whatever else can be carried aboard. We check in at the Pestana Inhaca and check out the island or relax at the pool.
Days nine and ten, Monday and Tuesday
And Inhace is a typical African Island - everything relaxed and laid back and Four dives on any of the rarely dived reefs around the island, chosen on the day depending on tide and conditions. The afternoons are free to explore, relax or go deepsea fishing.
Day eleven, Wednesday
We take the first ferry back and transfer to the Kruger National PArk via the Komatipoort border post (have patience). We then spend the first three hours or so on a game drive, enjoying the reserve's abundant wildlife. Lunch is light and in the late afternoon a sunset/night drive in open vehicles allows for the opportunity to discover the many nocturnal species that inhabit the park. Dinner is a social afair and you fall asleep with the sounds of Africa in your ears.
Days twelve and thirteen, Thursday and Friday
These days are spent between game drives, hides, and relaxing at the camp. Optional activities like guided game walks are available.
Day fourteen, Saturday
Unfortunately all good things must come to an end. We transfer via a scenic route to Johannesburg International Airport with a little bit of time to spare at duty free:-(
